Thelma passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, December 28, 2016, 3 days before her 96th birthday. She is at peace after a long and fruitful life.

Thelma was a New Year baby, born January 1, 1921, to Marcellus and Laura (Dodd) Campbell in Roseland, VA.

Thelma graduated from Rockfish Valley High School on June 1, 1938. At her graduation reception, Jimmie Leech sang, and she must have liked his voice as they married June 1, 1941. Her favorite song from him was “You are my Sunshine”.

Thelma was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years, taught sewing classes, served as a Deacon, prepared receptions for new members, and was awarded Lifetime membership for her service in the Women’s Circle. She also had lifetime membership in the Shenandoah Valley Garden Club where she won recognition frequently for her beautiful roses. Thelma was an active volunteer with Red Cross Blood Bank, Western State Hospital (Staunton), Liberty House and Avante Nursing homes, and United Way.

Thelma was predeceased by her husband Jimmie, and brothers Irving, Haywood, Berkley, Landeth, Mulford, Maphis, and McAuldman.

She is survived by sons Danny (Pam) Leech of Waynesboro, Jim (Mikie) Leech ofStuarts Draft, and Glenn (Jill) Leech of Mechanicsville, grandsons Ben Leech of Tahoe City, CA and Daniel (Megan) Leech of Richmond, and great-grandsons Kersey and Dylan Leech of Richmond.

Family night will be at McDow Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro, Va. on Thursday, January 5, 2017, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 877, 249 S. Wayne Ave, Waynesboro, VA 22980 or Augusta Health Foundation c/o Hospice of Shenandoah, Box 1000 Fishersville, VA 22939.
