Jessie Akins Winn, the first of six children was born on Mother's Day, May 10, 1925 at 6:30 a.m. to Malcolm L. and Flossie Collins Akins in Denison. They later moved to Riverside in Fort Worth, where she attended school, graduating in 1943. That same year she started a 15-year long career with General Dynamics as a Rosie Riveter and later moving to the office after attending a local business school.
Jessie met the love of her life in 1931 during the first grade.
George 'Jack' Winn spent the next 11 years convincing her to marry him, which she did in 1943. After 56 years of marriage she said that she just made up her mind to keep him. Their union was blessed with one child, Jackie in 1952. In her lifetime, Jessie made her family a home in many far away places, including Alaska, North Dakota, Florida, Puerto Rico and California. She returned to Texas in 1975 when her husband retired from the Air Force. She left behind many loved ones.
Survivors: Husband, George 'Jack' Winn of Fort Worth; daughter, Jackie Jorgensen; brother, Richard Akins of New Mexico; grandson, Dane Jorgensen; granddaughter, Christy Clemens and her husband, Michael; great-granddaughters, Ashleigh and Caelynn; and sister-in-law, Jane Holly of North Richland Hills.
