Miss Annie Bruce Carr Bride of Mr. Douglas Bovard Sterrett
One of the prettiest and most interesting weddings of the year took place last evening in the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Kearney Carr, in K Street, when Mr. Carr’s sister, Miss Annie Bruce Carr, became the bride of Mr. Douglas Bovard Sterrett, of this city, son of Rev. J. MacBride Sterrett, of Springland, on the Pierce Mill Road. The ceremony was performed at 8:30 o’clock by the father of the bridegroom, assisted by the brother of the bridegroom, Rev. Hatch Sterrett, of Connecticut, in the presence of only the relatives of the bride and bridegroom, who in themselves formerd a goodly company. An orchestra played the wedding marches and a programme preceding and following the ceremony. The house was more than usually beautiful in its decorations of tall palms, delicate ferns and pink blossoms. The bride’s only attendant was her little niece, Miss Martina Carr, of Raleigh, North Carolina and the best man was the bridegroom’s brother, Mr. John Adlum Sterrett, of this city. The bride was escorted and given in marriage by her brother, Mr. William Kearney Carr and wore a charming gown of heavy ivory satin trimmed with rare old lace and pearls, a veil of tulle tied with orange blossoms and carried a shower of lilies of the valley. Her little attendant wore white muslin and carried a basket of pink sweet peas. After the wedding supper, the bride and bridegroom left for a long trip South and West, through New Mexico, Arizona and California. On their return, here they will live in the suburban home to be built by Mr. Sterrett on the Pierce Mill Road. Among the out-of-town guests was the bride’s mother, Mrs. Carr, widow of the former Governor of South Carolina, Hon. Elias Carr, whose home, Bracebridge Hall in South Carolina, is one of the most beautiful places in the South.
