Clara Bowen Abbott, 94, formerly of The Magnolias Assisted Living Home in Easley, S.C., died Thursday, March 30, 2006, at the Brian Health & Rehabilitation Center in Hendersonville, N.C.

Born in Greenville, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Rufus Carroll and Ellen Gaddy Bowen.

Mrs. Abbott retired from the Greenville County School District, where she worked as Secretary for Berea High School for 22 years. She was a member of Berea First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class, and was a member of the Senior Choir. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Wilburn Abbott.

Left to cherish her memories are two daughters and two sons-in-law, Glenda Seats Fincher and husband, Alvin Fincher, of Greenville, S.C., and Rebecca and Nathan Smith of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Opal Bowen Girtman of California; granddaughters, Bronwyn Zinna of Greenville, Lisa Frye of Edmond, Okla., and Natalie Smith of Gaithersburg, Md.; and three great-grandchildren, April and Brandon Stokes, and Hunter Frye. She was preceded in death by three granddaughters, Kim McNair, Cindy Moegerle and Maria Woods.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m., prior to the funeral, which will be will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

The family is at at the home of Glenda Seats Fincher at 204 Whixley Lane in Greenville, S.C.

Our heartfelt thanks go to The Magnolias of Easley and The Brian Center in Hendersonville, N.C., for their compassionate and loving care for Clara during her time there.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Brian Center of Hendersonville, 1870 Pisgah Drive, Hendersonville, NC 28791; and the Senior Adults of Berea First Baptist Church, 529 Farrs Bridge Road, Greenville, SC 29611.
