MISHAWAKA - Mary Jo Smith, 83, of Mishawaka, died Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at the Sanctuary at Holy Cross. She was born in Muncie on August 12, 1933, to Norval & Hildreth (Burton) Wood. On May 10, 1952, Mary Jo married James P. Smith at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Muncie. A retired florist, she was the owner of Bittersweet Lane Floral and a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. She loved her yard, gardening & flowers; caring for her dogs, Gidget, Bridget, Spike & Daisy; and cats, Tigger I & Tigger II. She was an avid Cubs fan and also a fan of Notre Dame football & girls basketball. She is survived by Jim Smith, her husband of 64 years, and their children, Stephen Smith of Mishawaka, Sheryl (Dennis) Zinz of Berlin Center, OH, Scott (Deana) Smith of Mishawaka and James S. “Jamie” (Anita) Smith of Niles; grandchildren, Ryan (Rhonda) Smith and Derrick Smith, both of Mishawaka, Nathan (Dina) Calabrese of Valparaiso, Stefani (Eric) Davidson of Salem OH, Christina Jo “C.J.” Calabrese of Berlin Center, OH, Keaton Smith & Colby Smith, both of Mishawaka, Micaela Smith, Ted Mayfield and Meredith Mayfield, all of Niles; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Sophia, Sadie, Bella & Jayden; and her brother, Willis “Buddy” (Pat) Wood of Muncie. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Wood, and sisters, Marcella Stewart Harrington and Nancy Carnes. Mass of Christian Resurrection 10:30 Monday, December 19, 2016, in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 4508 Vistula Rd., with calling in the church one hour prior to Mass. Calling also Sunday 1-5 pm in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy., with the Rosary recited at 4:30 pm. Entombment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
