A Judge of the Superior Court and Supreme Courts of North Carolina in succession from 1849 to 1868. He was a lawyer, a jurist and a legislator. He was married to Lucy Martin Plummer and lived his early years in Louisburg, NC. He received his degree from UNC in 1820. He was a professor of Law and close friends with Dr. Swain.
