Nancy Allen Grimes
October 5, 1942 - December 11, 2016

Nancy Allen Grimes passed away peacefully on the morning of December 11, 2016, in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Nancy was born on October 5, 1942, to John and Cleo Shermer. She was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, but soon moved to Borger, Texas, where she sang Southern Baptist hymns, danced with friends, and led cheers for the Borger Bulldogs. She married Gary Grimes on January 25, 1964. They spent the next half century side by side, sharing a rare and singular love and devotion for each other.

Nancy was a lady of letters who pursued a lifelong passion for learning and teaching. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education and went on to teach at Woodrow Wilson High School, Dallas County Junior College, and every family meal, car ride, and commercial break she took with her children, Gant and Reagan.

She spent her later years working at Gary’s office, attending Bible studies, cheering on local teams, and spoiling her dogs. One of her favorite jobs was being “Nan” to her grandchildren, attending their sporting events, school and church programs, and offering the same impromptu lessons she gave to her kids.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, John Shermer, Cleo Bogart, and her stepfather of 50 years, Vance Bogart.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Gary Grimes; son, Gant Grimes, and his wife, Courtney; daughter, Reagan Grimes; her grandchildren, Kendall and Kayden Grimes; sister, Sandra Taylor and her husband Jerry; sister Kim Maddox, and her husband Bill; cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Nancy’s life will be celebrated at First United Methodist Church at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 15, and will be officiated by Rev. Paul Goodrich and Dr. David Hartman. Burial will follow the service in Crestview Cemetery under the direction of Lunn’s Colonial Funeral Home.

The family will receive visitors from 6-7 pm. on Wednesday, December 14, at Lunn’s Colonial Funeral Home.

Nancy lived for the Lord and for those she loved. She was a picture of grace, elegance, and class. We grieve for her passing but rejoice at her healing and renewal and the knowledge that we will meet again soon.
