The tragedy of Millville

Mrs. Bartholome is dead in Woonsocket

Mrs. Michel Bartholomé, the victim of the tragedy of Millville that we told yesterday, is dead Thursday night at 9:30 at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Dieudonné Jalbert, 131 Gaulin Avenue, where she had been transported by car over two hours ago.
Mrs. Bartholomé, born Délima Lavallée, was 55 years old and was a native of St-Marc, QC. She was married in Plain Meadow, CT for 32 years. Since then she resided in Connecticut, the West, Canada, then in Woonsocket, where she arrived with her family fifteen years ago. She was unhappy with her husband, because he was excessively jealous and cunning. She had been struck on many occasions, it is said, and that he threatened to kill her. For many years, revolvers, kitchen knives, and other dangerous instruments have been removed from Michel Bartholomé.
The two revolvers which he used to kill his wife and commit suicide, were bought the night before the crime. As for the rifle, which was found on Thursday under a bed, Bartholomé had used it for a long time, for he liked to hunt.
The remains of Bartholomé were transported to Woonsocket Thursday afternoon around four o'clock and buried in Precious Blood Cemetery, without any religious ceremony.
The Bartholomé house in Chestnut Hill suffered about $200 in damages. There were several burnt beds, as well as a harmonium and other various furniture. Two windows had also been smashed.
Mrs. Bartholomé leaves three boys and three daughters, who were told yesterday, [Mrs. Olivier Tellier of Salem, Ma.; Mrs. Dieudonné Jalbert; Josephine Bartholomy, of this city; and Emile, Isidore, and Elias, all living at home,] and she leaves in addition four brothers, Charles and F. Xavier Lavallée, of St. Dominique, QC; Alphonse Lavallée, of Upton, QC; and Silas [Exias] Lavallée, of St. Valérien, QC; as well as three sisters, Mrs. Eusèbe Labrecque, of St. Valérien; Mrs. J. B. Renaud, of Warren; and Mrs. Cléophas Mathieu [Larose], of Cumberland Street, Woonsocket.
The children of the deceased and Mrs. Renaud, of Warren, are today with Mrs. Dieudonné Jalvert, to pray for the mortal remains of the victim of the horrible tragedy.
Mrs. Bartholomé was in Lady of St. Ann and a member of the Union of Prayer of St. Ann's Parish.
Her funeral will take place on Saturday at 9 o'clock at St. Ann's Church.
