Mrs. Helen E. Thompson, 58, Rock Falls, was fatally injured Friday afternoon June 20, 1958 when her car crashed and burst into flames near Orangeville. Her car went out of control, slid down an embankment, crashed into a tree and burst in flames. A farmhand on a nearby farm heard the crash and ran to the scene and pulled Mrs. Thompson from the auto. She died shortly after 3 p.m. Friday in Freeport Deaconess Hospital as a result of her injuries.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Rock Falls Christian church with the Rev. Harry E. Shiffer, pastor, officiating with burial in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Rock Falls.
Mrs. Thompson was survived by her husband, four sons; Elmer and Harold Scott of Como; LeRoy and Keith Scott of Rock Falls; two daughters, Mrs. Dorsey (Jessie) Person and Mrs. James (Mae) Evans both of Rock Falls; one step-daughter, Mrs. Dee (Dorothy) Harrison and one step-son, Lyle L.Thompson both of Wyandotte, Mich.; one brother, Clarence Whipple of Deer Grove; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Wallace of Rock Falls; 16 grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her first husband, and a daughter Pauline.
