Amanda was born in Nakel, Posen. Her mother was Katherine Krueger as noted on her marriage license application. As a young girl, she belonged to the German Baptist Church on West Locust Street where she met Fred Marquardt. They married in Bloomington on January 7, 1885 and had nine children. During surgery for a goiter operation, she had a heart attack which caused her death. She was first buried in Evergreen Cemetery and later moved to Park Hill. Her young son Milton died three months after Amanda and was placed in her casket.
