"The passing of one of the older citizens of the village of Cobleskill occurred Saturday night, June 26, 1943, in the death of Aaron Bixby, 91, at his home with his daughter, Mrs. Inez Ottman, in South Washington avenue, following a decline extending over a period of several months. Funeral services were held from the Mereness funeral home in Elm street at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, and interment was made in Cobleskill Rural cemetery. Rev. C. Walter Kessler, pastor of the Cobleskill Methodist church, officiated and the bearers, near neighbors of Mr. Bixby, were Bliss Abell, Clay Handy, Walter Mosher and Fred Edwards. Deceased, son of Asa and Eva Eckerson Bixby, was born in Middleburgh, January 13, 1852, and grew to manhood in the community, where he continued to reside for a time after he was united in marriage with Miss Louisa Coons of Cobleskill. They afterward resided at Barnerville and Warnerville, where Mr. Bixby operated dairy farms. It was 36 years ago he purchased the South Washington avenue home, where he died. For many years he was employed by the France Milling Company, but not since he suffered very severe injuries when struck by a car at the Main street and Washington avenue intersection ten years ago. Since several months enforced idleness following the accident he has, however, been active and about until within the past three months. Mrs. Bixby died December 13, 1926. Deceased was a member of the Christian church at East Cobleskill. Surviving, besides the daughter, Mrs. Ottman, are two sons, Edward A. Bixby of Schenectady and Harley Bixby of Cobleskill; three grandchildren, Mrs. Arthur Mickel of Warnerville, Mrs. Donald Van Derwerken of Central Bridge, and Mrs. Joseph Spenello of Cobleskill; and four great-grandchildren, Phyllis, Walter and Richard Mickel and Donald Van Derwerken."
