Funeral services for Vernon Harm Siebels, 85, were held Monday, Nov. 2, 1998 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, with burial held in the church cemetery. The Rev. Eugene Schipper officiated at the services, Military services were provided by the Anamosa Veterans.
Vern Siebels died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998 at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a lengthy illness.
Vernon Harm Siebels was born Jan. 18, 1913 in Wayne Township, Jones Co, Iowa, the son of William and Anna Zimmerman Siebels. He received his education in Wayne Township School #8. He started farming with his parents and later drove a truck for Alan Siebels. He served with the 8th Air Force in Europe during WWII.
Vern H Siebels and Nelda Marie Houstman were united in marriage on July 12, 1942 at University City, Mo. He drove a truck for Jones County, the Amber Co-op Creamery and the Anamosa Sale Barn. In 1950, he started farming the Siebels family farm. The couple bought their farm near Amber in 1955.
Survivors include his wife, Nelda, six children, Carolyn Otten of Monticello, Ronald (Elaine) Siebels of Anchorage, Alaska, Donald (Judy) Siebels of Springdale, Ark., Evelyn (Ken) Merrill of Anamosa, Helen (George) Beadmore of Dorchester, Galen Siebels of Anamosa; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Laura Monck of Monticello; two brothers, Elmer Siebels of Monticello and Ervin Siebels of Anamosa, and numerous foster grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Clarence, and a grandson, Lance.
A memorial fund has been established.
Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa was in charge of arrangements.
