Dr. Elizabeth Byrne Adams, 49, an area management technology consultant and professor of management science, died of cancer May 30 at George Washington University Hospital. She lived in Great Falls

Dr. Adams was a native of Long Island, N.Y., and moved to this area in 1956. She earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry at Queens College, a master's degree in education at George Washington University and a doctorate in public administration at American University.

From 1956 to 1958, she worked in IBM's federal systems division. After two years in the Marine Corps, she returned to IBM where she was employed until leaving in 1963 to become a computer consultant. Since 1974, she had been president of her own management technology consulting firm in Great Falls.

From 1966 until her death, Dr. Adams served on the faculty of George Washington University, where she was a professor of management science in the graduate school of government and business administration. She also had taught at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces and American University.

She was chairman-elect of the science and technology section in government of the American Society for Public Administration.

Survivors include her husband, John M., two daughters, Susan and Karen Adams, and a son Jason, all of Great Falls; her mother, Madeleine Williams of West Hempstead, N.Y.; her father, Edward Byrne of Rocky Point, N.Y.; three sisters, Ruth Carr of West Haven, Conn., Barbara Nappi of Port Washington, N.Y., and Penny Byrne of Miller Place, N.Y.
