She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Ronald Castle; daughter, Lisa Benedict and her children, Austin and Brooke; her son, Christopher Castle and his children, Andrew and Kinsey; her brother, Harvey and his children, Mike, Deborah, Laura and their children.
Maurine was a loving mother and devoted wife of a career Naval aviator. She taught elementary school in many ports of call over the years including Guam, Key West and Green Cove Springs Florida. Additionally, she worked with JMM Consulting Engineers in Reston, Va. as administrative assistant until suffering back-to-back strokes in 1992 and 1993. With the dedicated assistance of her husband, Maurine maintained strong resolve and did her best to live life to the fullest despite deficits suffered from the strokes. These consistent challenges did not deter her from enjoying her family and making babies smile, particularly her grandchildren. She also greatly enjoyed her favorite Maltese "Mickey."
Maurine enjoyed the outdoors and hunted, fished and dove most of her life. During their time in the Florida Keys, Ron and Maurine continued to enjoy their time together on the water boating and fishing. Armed with her electric reel, Maurine occasionally out-fished him, capturing snapper and grouper. The couple moved to St Augustine to be closer to family in 2004. Maurine will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
The family sincerely thanks the Flagler Hospital ER and MICU nursing and respiratory staff for their compassion, professionalism and comforting during her stay. This journey was made a little easier by their smiles and efforts on her behalf.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at Craig Funeral Home.
