Johann (went by John) Rominger was the fourth of seven known children of George Rominger (1795-1843) and Christina Anna Clauss Rominger (1789-1864), who married Dec 1818 at Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina and later moved to the Moravian community of Hope, Bartholomew County, Indiana.

John married Louisa Rebecca Lick (1828-1914) on 03 Sep 1845 in Indiana. John and Louisa were the parents of five known children, namely:

1. Arthur James Rominger (1848-1851)
2. Alvis M. Rominger (1850-1926)
3. Austen Lyn Rominger (1852-1931)
4. Alice Ann Rominger Ziegner (1858-1884)
5. John A. Rominger (1866-1910)
