Mrs. Maria A. Brooks, 68, wife of James A. Brooks, died at her home in 601 6th st SW, early Wednesday morning, after a short illness from pneumonia. She is survived by her husband, five children; William E. (Lillian) Brooks, James R.(Ida) Brooks, Nettie Alice, Mrs. Ralph (Dora) Heckaman, all of Canton, and Mrs. Charles (Sadie) Bevington, of Akron; one brother, J. W. Painter, of Colorado, and seven grandchildren.

Mrs. Brooks was born in Sewickley, Pa., a daughter of James and Sarah Lake Painter, She moved to Canton 42 years ago. She had celebrated her golden wedding anniversary a few months ago. She was a member of the Simpson M. E. church and of the Elta Rebekah lodge of Maccabees.
