EVA (Allen) HEFLEY-SHAEFFER - Obituary

Eva Shaeffer passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 12, 2016. She was 90 years old. She lived a long, happy life filled with family and friends. She was born in Sadie, OK, on November 4, 1926, to John and Bertha (Owens) Allen.

Eva and her sister, Marie, followed their father to California on the train when she was roughly 16 years old to work. She eventually settled in Sultana, CA, to raise two children with her first husband, Otto "Red" Hefley. In 1956, they moved to San Jose, CA, where they lived and worked for another 20 years, then moved back to the valley and Fresno. She met and married Ernest "Frank" Shaeffer in 1992, and they lived happily in Fresno for many years selling real estate together. They were proud members of the Trinity Southern Baptist Church in Fresno. She relocated to Sonora, CA last year due to health and to be close to family. Her heart was always in the valley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Bertha Allen; her husband, Frank Shaeffer of Fresno; her brothers, Boyd Allen of Dinuba, CA, and Lloyd Allen of Oklahoma; a daughter, Mary "Tuttie" Pelayo of Tuolumne, CA; and a granddaughter, Kelli Pelayo of San Jose, CA.

Eva is survived by her sister, Marie Davis of Fort Worth, TX; a son-in-law, Arnold Pelayo of Modesto, CA; her daughter, Bobbie Miras and her husband Augie of Twain Harte, CA; a step-son, Rich Shaeffer of Fresno; her grandchildren, Jeff Pelayo and his wife Amy of Auburn, CA, Michael Pelayo of San Luis Obispo, CA, Stephanie Garcia and her husband Mark of Sonora, CA, and Ryan Brehm of Twain Harte, CA; and her great-grandchildren, Brittany Masuda and her husband Michael, Joshua and Steven Pelayo, Kelli and Nick Garcia, and Madison Brehm. She also leaves behind numerous extended family members, many nieces, nephews and friends. She was loved dearly and we will miss her.

Visitation will be held at Dopkins Funeral Chapel in Dinuba, CA, on Monday, November 21, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. A Graveside Service will follow at Smith Mountain Cemetery at 12:30 p.m.
