Violet Irene Durfee, 83, passed away on Wednesday, November 16 at the home of her daughter, Cindy Jones, in Big Rapids.
She was born in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan on July 22, 1933, the third of five children born to Albert L. and Deretha (Wing) Durfee.
In September, 1950 she married Glen Hardy and to them were born four children who survive her; Linda (George) Novotny, Valparaiso, IN, David (Cathy) Hardy, Durand, Patricia (Mark) Fribley and Cindy (Bill) Jones of Big Rapids.
On August 1, 1964 she married Arthur R. Cour and in 1967 they adopted Christopher A. Cour, who survives.
Violet enjoyed playing dominoes and cards, making handmade crafts, crocheting and spending time with her family.
Along with her children, Violet is survived by her step-daughter, Kathy (Ron) DeMott, Mecosta and step-sons, Arthur (Pam), Mecosta and Terry (Lynn) Cour, Evart; 8 grandchildren: Karen Clark Willis, Newport,NC and Stacie Clark Jackson, Owosso; Angela Hardy Martin, Bancroft, Aaron, Corunna and Brandon Hardy, Swartz Creek; Jennifer Fribley Thorson, Big Rapids, Amanda Jones Larson, Morley and Scott Jones, Reed City; 7 step-grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren: Kaitlynn and George Holt, NC, Alexandria Sprague Miller,Taylor and Kevin Jackson, all of Owosso, Ethan and Ricky Hardy, Alyssa and Alex Martin, Devin, Ivan and Estella Hardy, Rylan, Lillianna and Kallen Larson and Avery Jones; Kaylie and Bryanna; step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Art in 1987, her mother in 1966, her father in 1985, brothers, Berdet in 1995, Boyd on July 22, 2016, her sisters, Bonnie Welch Behrenwald in 2012, and Virginia Welch Kappler on November 4, 2016 and her great-granddaughter, Kyla Holt April 10, 2016.
Funeral services will be held at Monhke Funeral Home, 128 South Warren Avenue in Big Rapids, on Tuesday, November 22 at 10:30 am with a short grave-side service at Mount Hope Cemetery in Mecosta with Pastor Charles Hewett officiating. Visitation with the family will be on Monday evening, November 21 from 4 pm-7 pm.
