Lawrence S. Fletcher, prominent Oakland attorney, died unexpectedly in his sleep early Oct 25, 1964. He was 58.

Mr. Fletcher, whose father was a state senator, began his law career as an assistant to then District Attorney of Alameda County, Earl Warren.

The Stanford graduate remained with Warren when he became Attorney General, then entered private practice as a member of the Oakland firm of Hardin, Fletcher, Cook and Hayes when Warren was elected Governor.

He was active in his practice until the day before his death, apparently caused by a heart condition.

He was a member of the Stanford Associates, Stanford Alumni Association executive committee, San Francisco English Speaking Union and San Francisco Post of the American Ordnance Association. He was a member of the Oakland Lions, Claremont Country Club and Athenian-Nile Club.

Hi widow, Lillian, was named Oakland's Mother of the Year in 1963. The family home was at 443 Mountain Ave, Piedmont.

In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughter, Mrs. William Jaeger Jr of Piedmont, and Mrs Thomas Burns of Columbus, MO. He also leaves eight grandchildren.

Mr. Fletcher was born in San Diego, one of 10 brothers and sisters. One of his brothers, Charles, was elected a congressman from that district.

Funeral services will be Monday at 2 pm at the Chapel of the Mt. View Cemetery in Oakland.
