LeRoy Adelmund (1930-2006)

PARKERSBURG - LeRoy Adelmund, 76, of Parkersburg, died Friday, Dec. 29, at his home of natural causes.

He was born July 8, 1930, in Charles City, son of Abbie and Effie Mehmen Adelmund. He married Alma Jean Brown on Oct. 15, 1950, at Parkersburg United Methodist Church.

He received his education from the Parkersburg High School and later moved to Winterset where he worked in road construction. In 1951 the couple moved to Parkersburg and he worked for the Illinois Railroad and later at Rath Packing Co., Waterloo.

Mr. Adelmund served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. When he returned home he worked at the Parkersburg Lumber Yard. He and his brother, Marvin, owned and operated it until 1981 when they sold the business and retired.

Survived by: his wife; three daughters, Sheila (Mark) Claassen and Brenda (Noel) Oldenburger, both of Parkersburg, and Marsha Swanson of Van Horne; five granddaughters; two great-grandson; a brother, Marvin (Lois) of Parkersburg; and a sister, Elsie Church of Parkersburg.

Preceded in death by: a granddaughter.

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Parkersburg United Methodist Church, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Parkersburg Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church, and also for an hour before services Tuesday. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, is in charge of arrangements.
