Johnny Wendell Abernathy, 37, who farmed on the S.A. Clay farm two miles west of here was pronounced dead on arrival at Missouri Delta Hospital in Sikeston, MO following a heart attack. Born in Grassy in Bollinger County, MO to Joseph M. and the late Elizabeth Abernathy.
He married Hester Mae Ross of Chaffee, MO Aug. 1, 1959. She survives.
Also survived by daughters Lytha Ellen, Ruby Ann and Bonnie Lou Abernathy; son John, Jr.; brothers Grover of Sikeston, MO; Cecil of Pontiac, MI; and Vendol of Morehouse, MO; sisters Mrs. Rose Bennett of Doniphan, MO; Mrs. Delpha Dement of Pontiac, MI; Mrs. Alma Smith of Eldora, NY; and Mrs. Thelma Newman of Miami, FL.
Services are Monday in McGhee Chapel in Grassy. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in charge.
