Dr. Billy Dean Pounds, 86, Passed Away Thursday, November 3, 2016 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

He was Born January 23, 1930, to Seth and Warnie Wroten Pounds.

He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran.

He was a Professor at MUW for Forty Six Years and also Taught at Wheeler High School, NEMCC and a Summer Session at the London School of Ecomonics.

He was a Member of First United Methodist Church in Booneville, where he Served as a Sunday School Teacher.

He was a Member of Many Professional Associations and Civic Clubs, among those are the Lions Club, The Rose Society, KDE, the Board of the Salvation Army in Columbus, the Board of The Palmer Home for Children, the Board of Directors of the MUW Wesley Foundation for Columbus and Booneville, a Founder of the Magnolia Tennis Club in Columbus, a Founder of the Columbus Kidney Foundation, and a Mason.

He Received Many Honors and Professional Awards and a National KDE Scholarship Named in his Honor.

He was also a Sponsor of Many Clubs at MUW.

He was a Ranked Tennis Player in the Volvo League, an Avid MSU Fan and a Rose Gardener, who Liked to Share his Roses with Others.

A Celebration of Life will be at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, November 5, 2016, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Sisk, Bro. Bobby Hankins and Dr. Steve Howell Officiating.
Burial with Military Honors will be in Booneville Cemetery.

He is Survived by his Wife, Genie Smith Pounds; Two Daughters, Angela Via and Husband, George; and Mary Dean Stone and Husband, Marv; Three Grandchildren, Genie Alice Via; Mary Margaret Via; and Billy Anthony Stone; One Sister In Law, Gloria Smith; and a Host of Nieces and Nephews.

He was Preceded in Death by his Parents; Four Sisters, Ortha Long; Opha White; Marie Gullett; and Betty Crawford; Four Brothers, Oswald Pounds; Theron Pounds; Thedrell Pounds; and Kenneth Lee Pounds; and One Brother In Law, Ben Taylor Smith.

Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at McMillan Funeral Home and Saturday from 2:00 P.M. until Service Time at the Church.
