He was born in what is now Union Township, Adams County, PA. He married Catharine Leister about 1808. He owned a farm near the Pine Grove School. He was also a millwright. He purchased another farm [39.760026 long -77.047896], in 1832, near Christ Church where he operated a sawmill. The house and mill pond are still in existence. He advanced money to all his children to buy farms. He also owned property in Maryland. Jacob and Catharine had nine children and 55 grandchildren. Their children were: Elizabeth Gobrecht, David, Lydia, Jacob, John, Matilda Zuck, Abraham, Henry and Daniel.
