Melvin W. Bachman, age 74, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2016, at the local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2016, at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Watertown. Pastor Kathy Hibbert will officiate. Music will be provided by A. J. Sherrill as organist with Don Seim as soloist. The family is requested to meet at the church on Monday by 10:00 a.m. for a family prayer service.

Visitation will be at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Monday.

Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Honorary pallbearers will be Melvin’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be: Allen Townsend, LeRoy Schliesman, Duane Poppen, Brian Karber, Teri Hieb and Dennis Stanley.

Melvin was born on July 29, 1942, to Chris and Rose (Alt) Bachman, in Watertown, SD. He was a graduate of Henry High School, Henry, SD.

He was united in marriage to Judy Hoff in July of 1962. She passed away in June of 1976.

On April 12, 1977, Melvin married Evie Engel in Watertown. Melvin drove truck for Old Home Bakery in Watertown for ten years, after which he started his own business, Bachman Painting, and owned for the next thirty years.

His favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing with his grandsons. He enjoyed going to Canada with friends and fishing, attending hockey and softball games, and spending time with his dog, Max. He also enjoyed watching Fox News, “Go Trump."

Melvin is survived by his wife, Evie; his children: Lori Boschee of Eureka, SD, Larry (Renea) Bachman of Watertown, SD, Bobbi (Clyde) Ottenbacher of Eureka, SD; his step-children: Jeff (Lynette) Engel of Spearfish, SD, Tashia (Chad) Barton of Watertown, SD, Robin (Jon) Engel of Big Stone, SD; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, LaVerne (Ada) Bachman of Clarkston, WA; and one sister, Helen Stanley of DeSmet, SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Judy; his baby sister; his nephew, Richard Bachman; his brother-in-law, Everett Stanley; and his dogs: Toby, Tank, Dylan, Casey and Gunner.
