He was united in marriage to Druzilla Katherine "Zilla" Fullerton on September 1, 1926 in Hartwick, Poweshiek County, Iowa. To this union were born six children. One son John and five daughters; Ruth, Marie, Delores, Kay and Mary.
He farmed for sometime and later worked as a carpenter in the Brooklyn, Iowa area. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and the Knights of Pythias.
