US Congressman. He graduated from the medical department of Yale College in 1826, moved to Oswego County, New York and became a physician. In 1841 he relocated to Baldwinsville, Onondaga County, where he continued to practice medicine and also served as Postmaster. Jones was a well-respected doctor and several prospective physicians studied with him before beginning their own practices. In 1850 he was elected to the US House of Representatives as a Democrat and served two terms, 1851 to 1855. He did not run for reelection in 1854 and returned to his Baldwinsville medical practice. Jones became a Republican after the party was founded in the mid 1850s, and in 1858 he was Chairman of the New York State Republican Convention.
