He was born May 18, 1919, in Aledo, a son of Charles Conaway and Charlotte Sunderbruch Bentley. He graduated from Aledo High School. He married Lois V. Giffin Sept. 11, 1943, in Aledo.
He farmed east of Aledo, retiring in 1990. He was former Mercer County Zoning Officer and was courier for the First Community Bank in Aledo.
Charles was a member of Aledo United Methodist Church, Aledo Masonic Lodge No. 252 AF & AM, Moline Consistory and the Shriners. He enjoyed parading with the Shriners, woodworking and was an avid Cardinals fan.
Survivors include his wife, Lois; a son, Kenneth, Aledo; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George, and a sister, Rose Marie.
