Anne Short Johnson, 82, died October 21, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Society in Larimore, ND.
Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, October 25, at St. George's Episcopal Church, 601 N 4th St., Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Monday, October 24, at St. George's Episcopal Church, where a vigil service will be held at 7:00 pm.
Anne Whittemore Short was born on October 25, 1933, in Bismarck, ND. Her parents were Edith Whittemore Short and Don Levingston Short who lived on a ranch north of Medora, ND. Her grandparents were Dr. Arthur Augustus Whittemore and Blanche Gurr Lynn Whittemore of Bismarck, and Hugh Connoran (Con) Short and Anne Otley Corkery Short who also ranched north of Medora.
Anne graduated from Beach High School in 1951 and from the University of North Dakota in 1955 with a major in Medical Technology. She married Ward Kendall Johnson on June 23, 1956. They lived in six states in addition to North Dakota before coming to Bismarck in 1972.
Anne worked as a Medical Technologist at Deaconess Hospital in Grand Forks and the UND Medical School while Kendall was attending the University. After all her children were in school she worked as a Medical Technologist in the Chemistry and the Special Chemistry departments for St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck for 18 years until her retirement.
Anne was an active member of the Episcopal Church all her life. She was baptized at St. George's Episcopal Church in Bismarck. She worked many years in children's activities such as Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Rainbow Girls and was a Sunday School teacher and Bible school teacher. She enjoyed watching her children's concerts and sporting events. Later she became a member of Chapter F of the P.E.O. Sisterhood where she served as Chapter F President and also as North Dakota State President, the Fortnightly Study Club which she also served as president. She participated in many church activities, was president of the Episcopal Church Women and served for many years as the United Thank Offering coordinator for St. George's and also for the Diocese of North Dakota. Anne loved being a grandmother and loved being involved in her grandchildren's lives. She felt especially fortunate to be a part of her three Bismarck grandchildren's lives, and enjoyed going to their concerts and games for so many years. Anne was proud of all 14 of her grandchildren, was pleased when they came to visit in Bismarck and planned visits most years to see them wherever they lived.
She is survived by her children, Connie (Ted) Poppke, Bismarck, Mary Johnson (Victor) Cajiao, Corona, CA, Ward K. Johnson III (Diana), Grand Forks, ND, Don Short Johnson (Beth), Bismarck, and Peggy (Kyle) Anderson, Sioux Falls, SD. Her grandchildren: Becky Poppke, Maddie Poppke, and Conner Poppke; Jonathon Cajiao; Erica Johnson, Mitch Johnson, Lauren Johnson, Ward K. Johnson IV, and Michael Johnson; Joshua Johnson, Luke Johnson, and Sam Johnson; Christopher Anderson and Kendra Anderson. She is also survived by her sisters Connie Short (Paul) McDonald and Susan Williams (Dan Dinkle), and sisters-in-law, Sandra Short, Mary E. Johnson and brother-in-law, N. Conner Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Reverend Ward Kendall Johnson; and her brother Con Short.
