Obituary
Charles P. Niles, age 88, of Janesville, died on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016, at home. He was born in Janesville, on Jan. 19, 1928, the son of Arthur and Annie L. (Lundsford) Niles. He graduated from Milton College and UW-Whitewater with Bachelors and Masters degrees in Education. He served in the U.S. Navy Air Corp during World War II and in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Charles married Beatrice Gramke in Janesville on Aug. 27, 1949. Together they had two children, Chuck and Kim.

He was a professional photographer and published author, but will be most remembered as a teacher. Over the course of a dozen or so unsuccessful attempts to retire from the profession, he taught English, Drama, and occassionally computer literacy at Broadhead High School, Blackhawk Technical College, and Upper Iowa University.

He served as a performer and director for Janesville Little Theatre, Beloit Civic Theater, Brodhead High School, and many other community arts projects. At Janesville Little Theater, Chuck headed committees on membership, publicity, stage construction and others. For many years he wrote and published regular newsletters for Janesville Little Theatre. As a frequent member of Janesville Little Theatre's board of directors, he served multiple terms as President, Vice-President, and Secretary. He published articles and gave lectures on Janesville Little Theatre's history and activities. In his many years with Janesville Little Theatre he recruited countless friends and family into the theater. In 2012, Chuck and Bea were were inducted into the United Arts Alliance Hall of Fame for their 50 years worth of contributions to the arts in Rock County.

He is survived by his wife, Bea; daughter, Kim Soha of Arkansaw, WI; 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 2 brothers ; many other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Charles; and 4 siblings: Arthur Niles, Jr., Wanda Goetz, Muriel Wilkenson, and Nancy Moyer.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016, at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME.
