Mrs. Grovia Pete Waters McQuaig, 94, of Waycross died Saturday morning (Oct. 8, 2016) at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems of Waycross after a short illness. She was born in Reidsville, GA to the late Robert Raymond Waters and Lanie Elmere Kicklighter Waters. Ms. Pete lived in Waycross for most of her life where she worked as a Network Clerk for the Southern Bell Telephone Company and was a member of First Christian Church. She was passionate about gardening, cooking and the monthly birthday parties she orchestrated at Satilla Care Center for the past 51 years. Her memberships included the Garden Club, Walking Club, Telephone Pioneers and she was the Exchange Club Volunteer of the year.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Latimer McQuaig; four sisters, Myrtle Smith, Inez Collins, Nadynee Burris, Monteen Waters; two brothers, Foster Waters and Robert S. Waters.

Survivors include one daughter, Janice Nisbet and her husband, Sam of Flowery Branch, Georgia one son, Wayne McQuaig of Shelbyville, KY; one brother, Winton E. Waters of Glennville, GA; the loves her of life five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, Natlie Parker and her husband Andy, Mandy Butterly and her husband Ryan, Staci Hunt and her husband Brian, Justin McQuaig and his wife Megan, Laura McQuaig-Davis and her husband Aaron; great grandchildren, Riley Parker, Abby Parker, Owen Parker, Morgan Parker, Connor Butterly, Hollis Hunt, Henry McQuaig, Cassidy Butterly, and June McQuaig; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00a.m. at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10:00a.m. til 11:00a.m at the church. The Telephone Pioneers will serve as Honorary Pallbearers and are asked to be at the church by 10:45a.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 412 McDonald St., Waycross, GA, 31501; St. Jude’s, P.O.
