Mr. James Luther Allen was born in Mangham, Louisiana on May 23, 1930 and he passed away, following a brief illness, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, Louisiana. Funeral services for Mr. Allen will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop with Bro. Allan Eppinette officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery of Bastrop under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 9th, beginning at 1:00 p.m. until time for services at Cox Funeral Home, Bastrop.
Mr. Allen is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Hudson Allen, his parents, Jim Allen and Sallie Crawford Allen, a son, Luther Allen, Jr., grandson, Jason Allen, great-granddaughter, Shelbie Brown, three brothers and one sister.
Mr. Allen was a retired millwright with forty-one years of service at International Paper Company and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was an avid coon-hunter and was known to hunt all night and still show up to work on time the following morning for a full shift. Mr. Allen was known to many friends by his CB radio handle, "Papa Tree Dog".
Survivors include his son, Donnie Allen and Rita Rawls, seven grandchildren, Shellie Ray and her husband, Chris, Shana Brown and her husband, Kurt, Donelle Allen, Steve Allen and his wife, Melisssa, Sandy Gilmore and her husband, Jeremy, Elizabeth Allen, and Miranda Allen. He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
