Martha is a daughter of Andrew Peter Johnson and Sigre Martha Hoyer. She was born in Sweden and immigrated to the United States with her family in 1881. The family settled in Colorado.
On April 13, 1892 Martha married Louis Soderquist, also from Sweden. They lived in Colorado for the first years of their marriage. All but the last of eight children was born in Colorado. By 1909 they were in Vernal, Utah (specifically Naples) where they raised their children and spent the rest of their lives.
Louis died in 1952 leaving Martha a widow for the last nearly 20 years of her life. She died at age 96.
