T. F. Hawkins Is Buried In Mercer Retired Mailman Died At Home Sunday
Funeral services were set for 2 o'clock this afternoon at Berea Christian Church, Mercer County, for T. F. Hawkins, 77, retired mail carrier, farmer and Masonic official, who died at 2:20 o'clock Sunday morning at his home on Mackville road, near Harrodsburg. He was the brother of Mrs. J. C. Colyer of Danville. Son of the late Joseph Allen and Sarah Elizabeth VanArsdale Hawkins of Anderson county, Mr. Hawkins was a member and elder of Berea Christian Church, Sunday school superintendent for 43 years and Bible class teacher 45 years. He was past master of Mercer Lodge 777 F. and A. M. of Har- rodsburg and past high priest of Daviess Chapter 29, Royal Arch Masons, Harrodsburg. He had conferred the Master Mason degree on 417 candidates and conducted Masonic funerals. He was an honorary member of McAfee Lodge 229 at Cornishville of T. N. Wise Lodge 349 at Dugansville, of Magnolia Lodge 201 at Mackville and Emulation Lodge 688 at Sharpsville; a member of the Knights of the Maccabees at Harrodsburg, former Montgomery Lodge 18 IOOF of Harrodsburg and former member of the Modern Woodmen of America.
He carried the mail on Route 3 out of Harrodsburg for 31 years, retiring at the age of 65. The Rev. W. G. Montgomery, the Rev. R. H. F. Anderson and the Rev. Paul Snipes, all of Lexington, and Tom Gabhart, Mackville, were named to officiate, with Masonic rites to follow.

Interment was to be in Berea Cemetery. Active pallbearers were to include J. D. Black, Arnold T. Nichols, Marvin Thompson, D. Dickerson, Thomas Shanahan and T. V. Warner, with members of the Masonic orders as honorary pallbearers. Survivors are his wife, Mrs Lena Davis Hawkins; two daughters, Mrs. Gus Shelburne, Lawrenceburg, and Mrs. William Young, Valley Station; John Hawkins, Frankfort, and Lee Hawkins, Harrodsburg; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Warren McCoun, Alton, and Mrs. J. C. Colyer, Danville, and one brother, Herbert A. Hawkins, Alton.
