One of the leading manufacturers of Detroit. He was the youngest son of eight children of Safford S. and Clarissa (Cook) DeLano. In Fort Wayne, IN in July 1861 he enlisted to serve in the Civil War and served in the 5th Michigan Infantry. He was a Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant but became deaf and was discharged in 1863.
