Douglas Howard Nowell ,73, of McAlester, passed away Monday, September 26, 2016, at McAlester Regional Health Center. Doug was born on July 28, 1943 in Kiowa, to Joe and Bonnie (Moss) Nowell. He grew up in Savanna and played basketball. He joined the U.S. Navy and played basketball and served during Vietnam. After his service he received a basketball scholarship to Murray State and finished his degree at East Central University in Ada. Doug was a master carpenter and was a secondary educator for a number of years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #79 in McAlester and loved fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Donna Christine (Nowell) Rogers; brothers and sisters, Bill Nowell, Joyce Davis, Tommie Nowell and Jim Nowell. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday September 30th at Brumley-Mills Chapel with burial to follow at Savanna Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
