May 16, 1936 - September 24, 2016 Morine Short Payne, 80, the widow of Cournel H. Payne Sr., passed away Saturday morning, September 24, 2016 at Baptist Health-Richmond.
Mrs. Payne was born on May 16, 1936 in Richmond, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Felix and Dovie Hurt Short. She was a retired school bus driver for the Madison County School System and was a member of the Lancaster Road Church of God.
Survivors include one son: Pastor Butch Payne (Linda); two daughters: Marilyn Daugherty (Lonnie) and Delora “Lorrie” Byrd (Steven); two brothers: Merle Short (Pam) and Carl Short (Mary); twelve grandchildren: John Daugherty (Yvonne), Bradley Daugherty (Britnie), Shelby Daugherty Williams (Austin), Matthew Wren (Lisa), Amanda Chenault, Nathaniel Byrd, David Payne (Dawn), Jennifer Little (Rodney), Vanessa Tyra (James), Christopher Cowan, Kimberly Cowan and Holly Cowan Cody (Elmer), twenty-six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter: Vicki Cowan, an infant son: Charles Leroy Payne; four brothers: William T., James, Harold and Joe; four sisters: Dorothy, Nellie, Nettie and Geraldine.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 27, 2016 at The Lancaster Road Church of God with Rev. Phillip Payne and Pastor James Tyra officiating. Burial will follow at Madison County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be: David Payne, John Daugherty, Brad Daugherty, Matt Wren, Nathaniel Byrd and Chris Cowan.
