Sonia Lee (Piper) Shaffer, 66, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at her home. She was the wife of Norman E. Shaffer, Jr. with whom she celebrated a 34th wedding anniversary on October 5. The service will be 6 p.m. Saturday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York. Viewing will be 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. Mrs. Shaffer was born July 27, 1936, in Shippensburg. She was the daughter of the late Leo A. and Margaret G. (Coy) Piper. She was an assembler, employed with American Product for the past 16 years. She was an avid camper and loved to paint with oils. Mrs. Shaffer is also survived by three sons, Fred W. Read of Seven Valleys, David C. Read of Las Vegas, Nev. and Norman E. Shaffer, III of York; two daughters, Wendy L. Jones of York and Rebecca J. Shaffer of Glen Rock; eight grandchildren; a brother, Leo A. Piper, Jr. of Randallstown, Md.; and two sisters, Dorothy G. Arbegast of Jacobus and Naomi J. Carey of Fenwick Island, Del. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael S. Read; a sister, Marion Piper; and a brother, Ned C. Piper.
