The Daily Morning Union paper of Nevada City and Grass Valley posted on Jan. 27, 1898, Yuba City, Charles Heenan committed suicide by shooting himself in the head. He had been a prominent resident of this city (Nevada City or Grass Valley) for the past thirty years.

Charles Owen Heanan of Scotland married Mary Lavinia Owner. They had 3 Children. I am working on creating the memorial for their son who died 2 yrs before Charles killed himself, that is why he did it. He went on a downward spiral after his only son died. He ended that spiral by taking his own life. He left his wife & 2 daughters behind. His older daughter Ethel Lavinia Heanan went on to marry a great oil baron, Samuel Allen Guiberson of Guiberson Oil. They had 2 children, Ariel their youngest daughter married & died very young as well. It seemed very common in this part of my family. I am searching all the stuff I have on my family; boxes & boxes, that's how I found out where Charles was buried & found your memorial. I hope to find a photo, but so far not yet.
