Lucy "Miss Lucy" Finley Hampton, 83 years of age, of Somerset, Kentucky, departed this life and entered into eternal peace on Tuesday, September 28th, 2004.

Miss Lucy was born in Big Creek, Kentucky on June 13th, 1921, daughter of the late Samuel "Sam" Finley and Pairlee Buttree Finley. She and her husband Jim owned and operated Finley's Drive In Restaurant in Somerset, Kentucky, a business they started in 1955. The restaurant was named after Miss Lucy who's maiden name was Finley. Lucy and her husband Jim were the creators of the Finley Burger, a double-decker hamburger that quickly became extremely popular. The burgers, fries and the cole slaw were so good that no other restaurant in town could compare. The carhops always created a fun atmosphere, and Miss Lucy was always in the kitchen making sure the customers got the kind of service they deserved. They also owned a second Finley's Drive In Restaurant in London, Kentucky. Eventually curb service gave way to the drive-throughs, but Miss Lucy and Jim continued to operate Finley's as a full-service restaurant.

Miss Lucy was survived by two sons, Dennis Hampton of Florida and Larry Hampton of Evansville, Indiana; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Pairlee Finley; her loving husband, James "Jim" Hampton, whom she married on November 20th, 1942 in London, Kentucky; and three brothers, Lester Finley, Dennis Finley, and Pearl Finley.

Visitations were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 1st, 2004 at the Bowling Funeral Home in London, Kentucky.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 1st, 2004 in the Chapel of the Bowling Funeral Home.

Burial was in the A.R. Dyche Memorial Park cemetery in London (Laurel County), Kentucky.

THIS IS A TRIBUTE IN MEMORY OF MISS LUCY,

I'd like the memory of me
to be a happy one.
I'd like to leave an after glow
of smiles when life is done.
I'd like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times
and bright and sunny days.
I'd like the tears of those who grieve,
to dry before the sun
of happy memories
that I leave when my life is done.
