U.S. Congressman. Educated in Europe, he was a successful planter on his plantation in Pineville, South Carolina. In 1813, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirteenth Congress, serving until 1815. After his term, he resumed his agricultural pursuits until his death at age 61.
