Tombstone was supposedly stolen, (obviously was recovered if so), but records indicate that it stated Washington was "A good servant of Josiah Settle, who accidently shot himself in the 16th year of his age". (Note: Was supposedly a son of Josiah Thomas Settle by his slave mistress, Nancy Graves, who he legally married in 1858. The family moved to Ohio around the time of the Civil War.) Washington would have been a brother to Winfield Scott Settle, who died in Indiana.
