Veteran of Civil War. Private in Company I, 6th Regiment Iowa Calvary. Resident of Dubuque County, native of Pennsylvania.

George was married three times. His wives were Elizabeth Hipple Peters, Emeline Winchell Peters (buried in Cascade Cemetery) and Louisa Faragher Peters. (All three wives died in Iowa.) He was the father of fourteen children, thirteen who lived into adulthood.

His son, John Frederick Peters, born 1841 in Pennsylvania died in California in 1903. Burial whereabouts is unknown but most likely Sacramento, CA.

His son, David D. Peters, born 1856 in Iowa, died in 1917. His burial whereabouts is unknown. He had been living in South Dakota. May be buried there?

The burial location of his daughter, Julia Peters Johnson, born Oct. 16, 1876 in Iowa and died in Florida in April 1957 is also unknown at this time.
