Her mother was born on the Isle of Man (England) and her father was born in Pennsylvania. She had 10 other living brothers and sisters from her father's earlier marriages. Her father died on 22 Feb 1883 and her mother died a year later, 5 Jul 1884. Since both parents had died within a year of each other, the sisters were separated and raised by others. This information was found in the Peters Family Bible transcribed in 1975 by a Peters descendent.
