Grandma Criswell Passes On

Elizabeth Crawford Minter was born May 13, in Delaware county, Ohio, departed this life at her home in Seldan, Kansas, February 20, 1920, aged 86 years, 9 months and 7 days.

In 1853, she was married to Jacob Bowser. Two daughters were born to them, Martha Jan Nason and one dying in infancy. She was left a widow in 1855.

In 1859, she was married to James H. Criswell who preceeded her in death April 6, 1912. To this union were born seven children, John W. Criswell, Edgar Criswell, Mrs. Kate Hansnaw, Edwin Criswell, Mrs. Lotty May Badgley, James Harvey Criswell and Mrs. Lillian R. Robinson Edgar and Edwin dying in infancy.

In 1859 they moved to Dalles county, Missouri, where they made their home until the stirring times of '61 when they were driven out of Missouri by the rebels. Afterwards locating in Van Buren county, Iowa, where the family lived until after the Civil War.

In1888 they came to Phillips county. A year later they moved to Sheridan county, homesteading a mile south of Selden. It was in 1897 that they moved to the family home in Selden where she spend the rest of her life. She leaves 6 children, 34 grand children, 59 great grand children and 1 great-great-grand-child, together with a host of friends and neighbors to mourn her death.

She was a faithful christian and church member.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wells Thursday afternoon at the Methodist church. She laid to rest in the Selden cemetery beside her husband.

Obituary contributed by Norman Criswell.

****NOTE****
The paper had a misprint in her obituary. She actually died in 1923, not 1920. Her headstone shows 1923 and I have a letter with the envelope that she wrote to her granddaughter in December, 1922.
