Author. He wrote nearly 30 books of fiction, nonfiction and poetry, with his best known novel "Shoeless Joe" (1982), being was made into the 1989 movie, "Field of Dreams", which starred Kevin Costner. Born William Patrick Kinsella in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, his first book, 'Dance Me Outside' was published in 1977. Aside from writing 'Shoeless Joe,' Kinsella wrote two other novels about the field of baseball, 'The Iowa Baseball Confederacy' (1986), and 'Box Socials' (1991). In 1997, Kinsella suffered a head injury as a result of an automobile accident, which halted his literary career for thirteen years. The reason for this, according to Kinsella, was because he didn't feel the inspiration to write and create. After his hiatus, his book 'Butterfly Winter,' was published in 2011. His final novel is due out sometime in 2017. He died as a result of doctor-assisted suicide under Canada's right-to-die legislation, which allows individuals to seek a doctor's help in ending their lives if they have a terminal illness.
