Mr. Charles "Charlie" William Arnold, 68, Gray, died on Tuesday, March 16 surrounded by his family at his residence. A native of Johnson City, he was a son of the late Evelyn Beatrice Lewis & Clayborne Alexander Arnold, Sr. Charlie was a 1960 graduate of Jonesboro High School and Steed College. He honorably served his country in the US Army during the Berlin Crisis in Germany. Charlie was a member of the American Legion Post 24, Johnson City. He is a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and a former member of Calvary Presbyterian Church where he served as a teacher and elder. A great man of faith, Charlie enjoyed conversations with people and helping others. He worked as a chemical operator at Eastman for 30 years, retiring from the Filter Products division. He was a member of Gideons International North Camp, Johnson City where he was responsible for giving out Bibles to the county jail, local schools and ETSU. Charlie enjoyed gardening, growing fruit trees, playing golf, spending time at the lake, and traveling. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Beatrice Sue Bawgus Arnold, Gray; a daughter & son-in-law, Lorie & Lloyd Horton, Kingsport; sister, Mary Fagan, Johnson City; brother, Clayborne Arnold, Jr., Gray; 9 nieces & nephews; and his wonderful neighborhood of great friends of more than 36 years. A Celebration of the Life of Charlie Arnold will be held at 8 PM, Friday March 19 at Tetrick Funeral Services with Dr. James Richter and Pastor Joel Kavanaugh officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 PM until the service hour. It was Mr. Arnold's wish to donate his body to Quillen College of Medicine. The family would like to thank Dr. Wiley & his staff; Caris Hospice, especially Kim, Melissa & Alicia; Home-in-Stead, especially Christa, Annemie, and Cristina; and to his excellent former physician who preceded him in death, Dr. Dennis.
