"The LaFayette Sun" - May 17, 1933:

Mrs. Ella (Elder) Lane.

This gracious woman passed from this life of sin and sorrow on May 8, 1933, at about 56 years of age. She lived near us, and at one time, when her husband was first elected sheriff of this county, chose a home with us in the same building.
Long since I sold this home to him and after making great changes and improvements, he is now called to give up his bosom companion and is weeping and weeping alone in a way no one can know who has not had this same experience. She was true in every relation of life, and I knew her afflictions far better than her husband and closest relatives.
Because of my love for her and her family and because of the beautiful relationship which has existed among us I feel constrained to speak of her in this written expression. I see, however, that much that should be said will be left unsaid.
She was originally Ella Elder, and she was true to her father and mother until the last. Her father was a minister of his religious denomination, known in this country as "Elderites". She did not suffer like many for want of attention, for she had the best in every way. Her husband, Mr. John Lane, remained at home these years of sore affliction and did all he could for her comfort. The doctors had done all in their power, and her husband has stood like a man and, as has been said, showed a readiness at all times and at all expense to render help and to bear cheerfully any part of this matter he could.
But alas, she is what we call dead, and died as she lived, in harmony with true womanhood. She has gone the way of all the earth and only a few more days and we shall follow.

One who loved her - J. T. Satterwhite.
