Son of John & Rachel (Haire) Burk. John Burk Sr later married Hannah Burridge 10 Nov 1808 Vermont.

John Burk Jr was 14 when his parents left MA to settle in Braintree VT. In the spring of 1800 John Jr's mother Rachel (Haire) Burk died. In 1803 John Jr married Betsey Green who was born 23 Oct 1786 in Oakham MA. She died 9 Sept 1850 in Leoni Michigan.

Schoonover Genealogy:
John Burk born 1746 in Ireland was the immigrant ancestor. He served in the American Revolution and is listed in the DAR books. He married Rachel Haire of Massachusetts. (I have her lineage back to the 1700s). John and Rachel settled in Braintree, Vt. by 1800. Both died there..she in 1800 and he in 1832. They had 3 children: John Jr, unknown son and Polly who married Jessie Mix. John Burk Jr. married Betsey Green. Their oldest children were born in Braintree, some younger ones in Danby, Vt and one in Marcellus, NY. Of the nine children, 2 remained in NYS in Cayuga County: Nelson Perry Burke and his brother William Green Burk.
John Spencer Burke with his parents John and Betsey Green Burke first resided in Grass Lake and Leoni, Michigan. John and Betsey are buried in the Leoni cemetery.

I know all men by there presents that Joint Burk Junior of
Braintree in the county of Orange and state of Vermont, am
and bound and obliged unto John Burk of Braintree of foresaid in the full and sum of one thousand dollars lawful money to the payment of which I bind myself and my heirs, executers and administraters firmly lay these presents sealed with my seal, Dated at Braintree this eight day March one thousand eight hundred. The condition 0f the above obligation is such that whereas the said John Burk Junior has agreed as in to provide for and suport his Honorable Father and Mother John Burk and Rachel Burk in a pleasant and comfortable manner in sickness and in health during each of their natural lives and also to pay all the just demands that are against the said John Burk at this date.

About 1813 John Burk, Jr., his wife Betsey and their 5
children left Braintree and went to live in Danby, Vermont. Her parents William Jr. and Betsey (Hudson) Green resided in Danby, Several of Betsey Burk's brothers and sisters also lived in Danby. Her father died there in 1816, in 1817 John Burk, Jr., Betsey and 7 children removed from Danby, VT and settled in Marcellus, Onondaga County, New York, fhe Burk family stayed in Marcellus until the mid-1830's when they then went west to Leoni, Jackson County, Michigan, Two of their sons, William and Nelson Burk, did not go to Michigan but, instead, settled in the Cato-Meridian area of Cayuga County, New York.
