Clyde M. "Mac" McGee, 81, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Gilpin, died Sunday (Nov. 10, 2002) in Lee Memorial Hospital, Fort Myers.
He was born Oct. 22, 1921, in Vanceburg, Ky., and had lived in Gilpin before moving to Florida 20 years ago.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a staff sergeant with Company K, 18th Infantry Division, serving in the European Theater.
Before retiring in 1980, he was a construction worker 30 years for George Koch Co. & Son in Evansville, Ind.
Mr. McGee was a member of First Baptist Church in Estero, Fla.; First Baptist Church in Leechburg; and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans of Flint, Mich.
He enjoyed fishing, reading and metal detecting on the beaches of Sanibel Island, Fla.
Mr. McGee is survived by his many friends at Granada Lake Park, Fort Myers.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel A. Klingensmith McGee, in 1994; his second wife, Pauline Hetrick McGee, on Dec. 14, 2001; his parents, William E. and Ella H. McClain McGee; six brothers, Robert, Aubrey, LaRue, Harvey, Woodrow and Dempsey McGee; and four sisters, Frances Ridenour, Belva Christina McGee, Mildred Blankenship and Flossie Lange.
Friends will be welcomed by his family from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at CLAWSON'S, Second at Main, Leechburg, where funeral ceremonies will be at 11 a.m. Saturday. Officiating will be his pastor, the Rev. John P. Pisarek. Burial, with full military honors accorded by the Armstrong County Honor Guard, will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Allegheny Township.
