Retired Minister Dies At Home in Salt Lake

The Rev. William M. Porter, 73, retired Presbyterian minister, died on Thursday night at his home, 1160 east Thirteenth South street, after a long illness.

He is survived by his widow and the following sons: Wray H., Fred J., John D. DeWitt, Cecil and Donald, all of Salt Lake, and Robert W. of Alma, Neb. He is also survived by the following borthers and sisters: John Doyle Porter, Glendale, Calif.; Thomas L. Porter, Alma, Neb.; Mrs. Emma J. Brook, Wichita, Kans.; and Anna P. Watt, Alexis, Ill.

He was a native of Shirleysburg, Pa. and attended the Princeton theological seminary. Later he studied theology in Chicago. He came to Utah in 1912 and retired shortly after.
The body is at the mortuary chapel of Qualtrough-Allcott.

Rev. Porter was ordained for Presbyterian ministry on October 20, 1880 by the Presbytery of Cedar Rapids in Iowa. He is known to have served as the pastor in these Presbyterian Churches:
Oneida, Illinois 1879-1880
Linn Grove, Iowa 1880-1885
Alamosa, Colorado 1886-1887
Blackhawk, Iowa 1887-1891
Nelson, Nebraska 1891-1905
